Review: How the Marquis Got His Coat Back

Purchase from Angus and Robertson Bookworld

How the Marquis Got His Coat Back is Neil Gaiman’s short sequel to Neverwhere. It brings back the much loved Marquis de Carabas and all his terrific eccentricities.

It is everything you would expect from a Gaiman novella. 9781472235329.jpg

The Marquis was probably my favourite character in Neverwhere. He had that typical delightfully interesting yet strangely eccentric flare that Gaiman
in known for. Don’t get me wrong though, like all the characters Gaiman creates, he is entirely unique.

How the Marquis Got His Coat Back follows the Marquis on his adventure to, well, to get his coat back. It follows on moments after Neverwhere finished, so if you’re going to read it be sure to read Neverwhere first.

We learn about the Marquis’ life in a way we didn’t in Neverwhere including meeting his odd brother and the vengeful Elephant whose diary the Marquis had once stolen.

Though short, the novella is the perfect addition to the legend of London Below and with the Marquis at its helm, readers are certainly in for an unpredictable ride.
