The Exchange

for her and then I was being chased through the big red door into a street filled with people celebrating Chinese New Year. The exchange was not supposed to go like this. We had a plan. We had a plan, but she didn’t turn up.

I hear the heavy footfalls of the men chasing me as they rush through the crowd pushing aside startled people. I look around, but there is nowhere to go. I stumble as the crowd swells into a swarm around me.

I look up and there it is; a metal barrel directed to the spot in between my eyes.

This flash fiction piece was written for the 99th FFfAW weekly challenge.
